Celts Drop Contest to Austin College

Celts Drop Contest to Austin College

Women's Basketball dropped the second game of their weekend doubleheader to the league favorite, Austin College Kangaroos.

In the early minutes of the first quarter, the Celts struggled to click offensively. However, a  Hayden Morris three-pointer sparked the scoring for UST. Micayla Hamilton then strung together five consecutive points for the Celts in an attempt to chip away at the 17-7 first quarter deficit. In the closing seconds of the half, Hamilton kept the hot hand and knocked down a triple to bring the Celts within eight. Hamilton led the way with 8 points, all of which came in the second quarter.

Hamilton continued to pour it on, providing seven consecutive points to open the half. The Celts outscored Austin College 17-12 in the third quarter to cut down their halftime deficit to 3 points. The game remained within reach for UST but their shooting woes allowed Austin College to pull away. As the contest winded down, the Roos caught fire extending their lead to 17 to earn the weekend split.

Hamilton led all scorers with 18 points, shooting 57% from behind the arc. Jade Evans had a solid performance both offensively and defensively. She put up seven points and grabbed six boards and also rejected two shots.

With the Celts weekend spilt, they fall to 3-3 on the season. They will hit the road next weekend for a doubleheader in Seguin, Texas as they take on Texas Lutheran University.
