Centre Outlasts Wooster 2-1 in OT

For the second match in a row, The College of Wooster found itself in overtime, as Paige Piper scored the game-tying goal late in regulation, but Centre College struck just six minutes into the extra period to get past the Scots 2-1 at Danville, Ky.

Trailing 1-0 in the 71st minute, and behind substantially in shot attempts, Wooster (1-1) set up a critical goal, as Kelsey Peters drove down the field and crossed a well-placed ball to an outstretched Piper, who found the back of the net. It was Peters' second assist this season, with her first providing a game-winning header to Liz Mott on Wednesday.

Centre (2-0) was the aggressor in overtime, firing all three shots in the period, including Brittany Garr's goal at 96:11 that sealed the Colonels' win.

Christina Giles scored the first goal of the match about 15 minutes into the second period after a Centre corner kick found her for the shot attempt. The Colonels bested Wooster 19-6 in shots and 5-0 in corner kicks on the day.

Goalkeeper Michele Ring played admirably in goal, fending off several Centre would-be scores, and tying a career-high with eight saves. Piper's goal was her first this season, and sixth of her career.

Wooster will remain in Kentucky this weekend for a match with Transylvania College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
