TLU Baseball Splits, Secures Series Over Centenary

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran and Centenary College split a Saturday doubleheader at Katt-Isbel Field, with the Bulldogs winning game one, 10-4, and the Gents taking game two, 2-1.

Texas Lutheran (11-7, 2-1 SCAC) won the series, however, with a 7-2 victory on Friday night over Centenary (11-10, 1-2) - holding a 2-1 SCAC record after the conference opening weekend.

Texas Lutheran rolled to a 10-4 victory in game one. Aric Vasquez (San Antonio/Brandeis) went 2-for-5, and led the Bulldogs with three RBI, all coming with two outs. Joe Jimenez (San Antonio/Johnson) went four-for-four with two RBI and three runs scored and Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) added a double and two RBI.

Zach Longshore (Richmond/Fort Bend Travis) picked up the win for the Bulldogs - working 4.2 innings allowing two runs on five hits and picked up his second win of the season.

For the second consecutive-day, Texas Lutheran scored the first runs of the game taking a 3-0 lead following an RBI single from Jimenez and a two-RBI single from Vasquez. Vasquez would strike again in the third extending the Bulldogs lead to 4-0.

A Gents homer in the fourth brought the Bulldogs lead to 4-1.

The Bulldogs got the run right back and more in the bottom of the fourth - scoring three runs courtesy of another RBI single from Jimenez and an RBI double from Tyler Post to take a 7-1 lead entering the fifth inning.

Each team would scratch across a run in the fifth before the Bulldogs would cross their final two runs of the game in the seventh courtesy of Vasquez and an RBI single from Randy Huerta (New Braunfels/New Braunfels).

Texas Lutheran would drop game two, 2-1. 

Centenary scored the first run of the game in the top of the third. Texas Lutheran would be held scoreless for six innings before Carson Draehn (Brenham/Brenham) would step up to tie the game in the seventh inning.

The Gents retook the lead, 2-1, in the top of the eighth and the Bulldogs were never able to match the Gents in the final two frames falling, 2-1.

JT Taylor (Sugar Land/Fort Bend Christian) got the start and pitched seven innings, allowing just two runs on three hits and two walks.

Blake Cappadona (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) and Alec Sanchez (Waxahachie/Waxahachie) were the only Bulldogs with multiple hits in the game.

The Bulldogs conclude their homestand with a mid-week non-conference matchup with the Concordia University Tornados at Katt-Isbel Field on Tuesday, March 22. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
