Bulldogs post second straight road conference win at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball received another career-game from senior shooting guard Olivia Balderas and pulled away from Centenary College (La.) in the second half to post a 70-61 win Saturday at the Gold Dome.
 
The Bulldogs moved to 2-0 overall and to 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Centenary dropped to 0-2 overall and to 0-2 in the SCAC.
 
Balderas (San Antonio/Incarnate Word H.S.) notched another career-high in points. After scoring a career-best 16 last night in TLU's 87-39, Balderas topped that mark with 18 on Saturday afternoon.
 
In addition to setting a new personal game-high for scoring, Balderas also established a new individual career-high for made three-pointers in a game, with six. Balderas was 6-for-10 from the arc.
 
Balderas scored 15 (all on three-pointers) in the second half as TLU out-scored Centenary 44-28 in the closing 20 minutes. TLU opened the second half by out-scoring the Ladies 23-9 in the third quarter.
 
Senior post Abby Hroch (Port Lavaca/Calhoun) scored nine of her 12 points in the second half. Hroch made four of her six total shots and pulled down eight rebounds, four on the offensive glass.

Redshirt sophomore guard Jayla Santa Maria (Edinburg/Edinburg) added 10 points and four rebounds, and senior point guard Tara Molina (San Antonio/Johnson) recorded five rebounds, four points, four assists, and two steals.
 
Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Shaw (Lockhart/Lockhart) delivered eight points and eight rebounds.
 
TLU returns to action on Friday, Jan. 29 with a 5 p.m. home conference game against Trinity.
