Volleyball Picks Up 10th Straight Win Against Huston Tillotson

The University of St. Thomas Volleyball team won their 10th straight game against Huston Tillotson. The Celts showed poise the whole match winning 3-0 and earning their eighth sweep of the season.

In the opening set, the Celts started out strong going up 10-4 early. This was until the Rams would respond with a 4-1 run of their own to get within two at 11-9. However, the St Thomas defense would halt Huston Tillotson from getting any further as they ended up winning 25-19. In set two the Celts and the Rams would trade blows, and tie the game at seven apiece. However, sparked by a five-point streak by Audrey Cataline, the Celts pull away to take a comfortable 12-7 lead and not look back to take set two 25-15. Finally, Huston Tillotson would try to keep pace in the last set, going up early and forcing two ties. However, this was not enough as Alaina Lanik would kickstart the last three points for St. Thomas as they won a competitive set three 25-19.

Ashlynne Fitzgerald would lead the Celts with six kills on the day, as Emerson Sykes would dish out 17 assists. Ally Peters and Paige Havel would lead the St. Thomas defense 12 digs and 2.5 total blocks respectively.

This marks St. Thomas' tenth straight victory this season, the longest win streak under head coach Keanne Burt and since joining the NCAA. With this win, the Celts sit atop the SCAC standings heading into conference matches. Volleyball opens SCAC play at home this Saturday against Texas Lutheran (12 pm) and Southwestern (6 pm). Come out and support your Celts as they continue their strong 2022 campaign!
