Christman, Tigers top Sewanee in SCAC opener

Carson Christman struck for a pair of goals and set up two other scores as Colorado College used a balanced attack to post a 12-5 victory at Sewanee in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

Charles Curtis and James Mauk recorded two goals and an assist, while Jack Kreitler and Moses Taylor each found the net twice to help the black and gold improve to 3-0 overall.

The visiting Tigers took a 4-0 lead when Kreitler notched his first marker with 5:04 remaining in the first period, but Sewanee used goals by Jack Thomasson, Will Grimes and Marty Johnson to cut its deficit to one goal with midway through the second period.

Kreitler and Mauk gave CC a 6-4 advantage, but Thomasson recorded his second goal 56 seconds later to trim Sewanee's deficit to 6-4 after 30 minutes. Mauk's goal proved to be the game winner.

But that was as close as the hosts would get.

Colorado College, the defending SCAC regular season champion, tallied six consecutive goals in the second half and did not allow the hosts to get on the scoreboard until Reed Daniel found the net with eight seconds to go.

Christman and Will Harris scored 11 seconds apart during the early stages of the third period and Taylor added his second score just over five minutes later.

CC sealed the victory with three man-up goals in the fourth period.

Will Ellis won 11 of 15 draws and had two ground balls for Colorado College.

Zach Steedman made five saves while going the distance between the pipes for CC. Spencer Graves stopped nine of 19 shots for the hosts

Colorado College visits Danville, Ky., on Monday for its first-ever game against Centre College, and then busses to The College of Wooster in Northwest Ohio for the final stop on its three-game Spring Break Trip.
