Fechter propels Tigers past Oglethorpe

Matt Fechter struck for three goals in the opening 13:29 and finished with four scores and an assist as Colorado College cruised to a 6-1 victory over Oglethorpe University on Sunday at CC's Stewart Field.

Fechter scored CC's quickest goal of the season 2:52 into the contest when he stripped an OU defender at the top of the penalty box and went in alone on goalkeeper Jon Beaver.

The freshman forward notched what proved to be the first game-winning goal of his career 4:41 later when he tipped a crossing pass from Jordan Reese into an open net. It marked the quickest two goals for Colorado College this season.

Fechter completed his first career hat trick in the 14th minute after taking a no-look heel pass from Brendan Douglas and sending a one-timer from the right side into the lower left side the net.

It was the first hat trick for the Tigers since Sept. 13, 2008, when Douglas scored three times during the first half of an 11-0 victory over Cornell College.

Reese extended his assist and points streak to four games and has four goals and six assists during that stretch. Douglas has four goals and three assists in the last four games.

The Stormy Petrels got on the board when Wil Nelp's back pass slipped past goalkeeper Brian Engle and rolled into the net before either could chase it down. Engle finished with five saves.

Colorado College got the goal back in the 62 minute when Ben Hancock took a feed from Fechter on the left side and toed a shot just inside the far post.

Fechter scored his fourth goal eight minutes later off a feed from Douglas. Kevin Dearden made a diving save on the initial shot, but the rebound went back to Fechter and he scored in an open net.

Austin Dressen completed the scoring in the 80th minute, finding the net for the first time in his career with a blast from the right side to the top left corner.

Dearden relieved Beaver 8:30 into the first half and finished with five saves.

Colorado College extended its winning streak to three matches and improved to 7-6-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the SCAC. Oglethorpe dropped to 6-7-1 overall and 1-4-0 in conference play.

The Tigers play their final non-conference games of the season on Thursday night and Sunday afternoon, respectively, when CC faces Ripon College and Carleton College.
