Women's Basketball Falls to Trinity in Season Opener

Women's Basketball Falls to Trinity in Season Opener

To start their season the Celts jumped out to a 10-2 lead and matched that offensive explosion with intense defense. In the first quarter, they limited Trinity to 7 points while shooting just 15% from the field. UST held the lead for the majority of the first half, but the Tigers' strong second quarter gave them the lead heading into halftime, 27-24. Micayla Hamilton led the way in the first half 8 points and a pair of rebounds.

As the intensity of the game picked up early in the second half, Trinity caught fire on the offensive end and extended their lead on the Celts. A three pointer by Emily Edwards gave UST energy but the Trinity offensive proved to be too much. Micayla Hamilton led the way with 12 points and five rebounds. Senior guard, Zariah McInnis tallied 8 points and dished out three assists.

"We were blessed to be able to start our season, it felt good to be on the sidelines coaching again and the team was excited to play.  Trinity is a great team, but I saw a lot of great possessions tonight and we have a solid foundation to build on" Head Coach Jae Cross said. "Shots just did not fall in the second half and especially in the third quarter.  We will grow and we will learn with every game.  We are a very young team and I am excited to see this team mature."

The Celts will be back in action tomorrow at 1:00 for their rematch against Trinity University.
