Celts force 34 Ties in Final Matchup with Bulldogs

Volleyball continued conference play against Texas Lutheran this evening. The Celts were competitive with the Bulldogs, forcing 34 ties and 13 lead changes before falling in four sets.

The opening set featured the Celts and Bulldogs trading points early until the score was 14-14. At this point, Laynee Beam kickstarted a 6-2 St. Thomas run to secure a 20-16 lead. From there TLU did their best to get back into the set, however, the four-point lead proved to be the difference as UST won the opener after 11 ties 25-21. Set two saw a similar game flow, yet a timely 5-2 St. Thomas run would put them in a position to secure a set victory. Texas Lutheran responded and battled back to make the score 18-18. From there the Bulldogs went on a 7-2 run to close out the set and even the score 1-1. Set three saw TLU pull away midway through the set to give themselves a commanding 19-12 lead. From there they didn't look back as they won 25-17. In set four both teams gave their all as it looked like TLU was going to take the victory, but St. Thomas would not make it easy. The Celts would tie the score at 20 apiece before ultimately falling 25-22 and dropping the match 3-1.

Offensively, Audrey Cataline led the Celts with 12 Kills and 17.5 total points. Emerson Sykes also dished out 23 assists. Defensively, Ally Peters led with 16 digs and Paige Havel had five blocks.
