HOUSTON – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas wrapped up the home portion of their 2019 volleyball schedule Tuesday with a four-set win over East Texas Baptist.

Scores of the match were 27-25, 25-13, 24-26, and 25-23.

Emily Jaroszewski (JR/Sugar Land, Texas) led the Celts with 17 kills and three total blocks. Alyssa Ajlouny (SO/Cypress, Texas) and Alaina Lanik (FR/Richmond, Texas) knocked down 12 kills apiece for St. Thomas (9-16). Lanik also recorded 17 assists and 11 digs for her fourth triple-double of the season.

UST setter Kelsie Walker (JR/Baytown, Texas) also posted a double-double with 29 assists and 17 digs. Kaylyn Latin (JR/Houston, Texas) led the defensive effort with 37 digs, while Alysse Villadiego (SR/Richmond, Texas), the team's lone senior who was honored before the match, tallied 13 digs.

With the exception of set two that the Celts won easily, the match closely fought. In set one, the Celts led 24-22 before ETBU came back to tie the score. After trading points, the Celts won the last two points to take the set.

In set three, the Celts overcame a four-point deficit to tie the score at 21-21. UST also had a 24-22 lead in that set, and were on the verge of a sweep, but the visiting Tigers rallied for four consecutive points, three of which came on kills from Kayla Rainey.

The Tigers overcame a four-point deficit late in set four, but the Celts withstood the rally and finished the set with three unanswered points.

UST players served 11 aces in the match; Lanik served six of those aces. Trinity Atkins (FR/Austin, Texas) was in on seven block assists in addition to four kills.

The Celts conclude Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend with four matches at Austin College. UST opens the weekend of matches Saturday at 11 a.m. when they face Southwestern (Texas).
