McCormick sparks win over Wentworth

Box Score Colorado College head coach Sean Woods was looking for a spark on offense, and Jack McCormick was more than happy to oblige.

McCormick struck for three of his four goals in the first half as the Tigers built a 9-2 lead after two quarters and cruised to a 13-7 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology in their home opener on Sunday afternoon at Washburn Field.

With the game tied at 1-1, the first-year attackman notched a pair of markers in a span of 51 seconds to give CC a 3-1 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first period.

Dylan Davie gave Colorado College a three-goal lead after 15 minutes, and tallies by Will Harris and Gray Ritger made the score 6-1 just 1:30 into the second quarter.

After Steve Glover scored the first of his game-high five goals for the Leopards, McCormick, Henri Halle and Ritger each struck in a span of 2:31 to give the Tigers a 10-2 halftime cushion.

"It was a good team victory," Woods said. "A lot of guys contributed and many of our young players got some valuable experience."

Davie and Ritger contributed a goal and two assists apiece, while Halle also found the cage twice.

Despite playing a man-down for seven minutes, CC finished with a 38-32 advantage in total shots and a 32-29 edge in ground balls. Wentworth capitalized on just two of its seven man-up opportunities.

Goaltender Chase Murphy steered aside eight shots before giving way to Zach Steedman with a little more than 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Steedman finished with three saves. P.J. Higgins paced the Tiger defense with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Jared Prouix stopped 10 shots for the Leopards, who dropped to 0-2.

Tim Parlato paced the Wentworth defense with five ground balls and caused two turnovers.

"This will give us some positive momentum as we head into spring break and a pair of games against very good opponents from the East Coast," said Woods.

Colorado College travels to Eastern University on Friday, March 14, and the Tigers wrap up their two-game road trip two days later at Lynchburg College.
