Rose lifts Tigers past Centre College

Nick Rose buried a fade-away jump shot with 44 seconds remaining to give Colorado College a 61-59 victory over Centre College on Friday night at Reid Gymnasium.

Rose scored 16 of his game-high 24 points during the second half to help the Tigers overcome a seven-point deficit with 8:02 remaining in the game. It marked the 12th time this season he scored 20 or more points in a game.

He also reached a pair of milestones during the contest, becoming the 25th player in school history to score 800 points, joining teammate Brady Ohlsen in the exclusive club, and the seventh Tiger to record 100 career steals.

Ohlsen posted his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Colonels had a pair of chances to tie the game, but Jeff Mullaney misfired an a pull-up jumper with 11 seconds to play and his desperation three-pointer from the right sideline came up short as time expired.

Colorado College took its first lead of the second half when Rose scored with 3:07 remaining, and after Mullaney converted on a pair of free throws just under a minute later, Jeremiah Waters buried a long 3-pointer from the right wing to give CC a 59-57 lead.

The Colonels led 38-28 when Matt Griggs knocked down a 15-foot jumper 3:21 into the second half and still led 45-36 when Mullaney scored on a layup with 11:47 to play.

Mullaney, who buried three of six three-point shots, led Centre with 15 points. Alex Lloyd had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Danny Noll added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tigers improved to 11-7 and 6-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Centre slipped to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in the SCAC.
