SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The McMurry University swimming teams both placed sixth at the two-day Trinity Tiger Invitational at the Palo College Aquatic Center. The War Hawks had outstanding performances as a unit, with the women posting season-best times in 31-of-32 races and the men improving in 24-of-28 races.
In addition to McM, the Invitational featured NCAA II teams Henderson State and UT Permian Basin, NAIA foe Wayland Baptist, as well as NCAA III and SCAC powers Trinity and Southwestern.
The women's quartet of
Kelsey Hill,
Kaylee Cook,
Zandria Rodriguez and
Robyn Remschel comprised the War Hawks' relay teams. They posted a time of 1:43.55 to finish eight out of 16 entrants in the 200 freestyle relay and ninth in the 400 freestyle relay in a clocking of 3:48.76 minutes. In the 200 medley relay, the group was eighth (1:57.06) and seventh in the 400 medley relay (4:21.52).
Individually, Remschel was the runner-up in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke races (placing behind a HSU swimmer in both). In the 100 back, Remschel had a time of 58.19 seconds (58.02 in the prelims) and touched at 2:04.98 (after posting the top qualifying time of 2:06.40). She was also 16th overall in the 50 freestyle (25.78).
In the 100 breaststroke, Rodriguez and
Linah Howey both placed in the "B" finals. Rodriguez was 12th overall (1:14.10) and Howey 16th (1:26.54). Rodriguez was also 11th in the 200 breaststroke (2:42.81).
Men's sophomore
Jerick Pena was third in the "B" final (11th overall) in the 200 individual medley (2:01.35). Pena repeated that same finish in both the 100 butterfly (53.30) and 200 backstroke (2:01.43).
Zach Tassin was 14th in the 100 backstroke (1:03.59).
Andrew Jarrett earned a place in the "B" final of the 200 butterfly, placing seventh (15th overall) in a time of 2:10.31.
