The Colorado College women's basketball team used a lightning-fast start and a balanced offensive to coast to a 79-55 victory at Centenary College on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Tigers raced out of the gates with a 7-0 run, and after the Ladies scored their first basket 2:43 into the game, CC scored 12 in a row to open a 19-2 lead with 3:15 remaining in the first quarter.
Â
The Ladies trimmed their deficit to 13 points several times, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the game.
Â
"We got contributions across the board today, which is exactly what we need coming into the second half of our regular season," head coach
Katherine Menendez said.
Â
Audrey Bayston went 5-for-6 from downtown and led Colorado College with 15 points. The first-year forward added seven rebounds and dished out a pair of assists.
Â
McKenzee Gertz became the ninth player in program history to record 1,300 career points with what a three-pointer early in the third quarter. With 11 points, she finished the game with 1,305.
Â
Gertz also became just the second Tiger to make 200 career three-point baskets midway through the first quarter to join Liz Kolbe (2004-08) in the exclusive group. Kolbe completed her career with 262.
Â
"
Audrey Bayston was on fire from behind the arc again and that really generated positive energy for us on offense," Menendez said. "
McKenzee Gertz and
Tedy Reed had great nights from the three-point line as well, making for a really balanced perimeter attack."
Â
CC connected on five of 15 long-range shots in the first half and then was a blistering 6-for-8 during the final 20 minutes.
Â
Sophomore forward
Rosie Braley grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, her third double-digit effort in six games this season. She also scored eight points and had one assist.
Â
Anna Fanelli tied her season high with 10 assists and added six points and five rebounds.
Â
Colorado College controlled the boards for the second day in a row, finishing the game with a 53-40 advantage in total rebounds.
Â
"Anna did a fantastic job finding her teammates, and the tempo she set put us in a good position to find success," Menendez said. "
Tori Matson and
Emma Nawara were aggressive getting to the rim and that definitely kicked our offense up another notch."
Â
Unlike the series opener when Centenary made seven three-pointers in the first half, the Ladies were 0-14 until Tacoya Allen scored from behind the arc as time expired in the second quarter. Centenary was 4-for-13 in the second half, however by then it was too little, too late.
Â
