Volleyball Continues Strong Start Sweeping DCC & RU

Volleyball Continues Strong Start Sweeping DCC & RU

The University of St. Thomas Volleyball team continued their strong start to the season taking road wins over NAIA opponents Randall University and Dallas Christian College.

Randall:

The Celts would not let the Saints get any momentum on in the first set, going on three key runs to win the opener. Capped off by a 5-0 run to end the set, St Thomas began the day winning 25-10. In set two Randall would keep things close early, as both teams found themselves deadlocked 6-6, but then St Thomas went on a timely 11-1 run to secure a 25-14 set victory. Finally, the Celts would continue their strong play, limiting the Saints to just eight points and earning their sixth sweep of the season.

Dallas Christian:

In the opening set, the Celts would have their hands full with the Crusaders as they found themselves behind 7-11, then trading blows back and forth. This was until a kill from Paige Havel would knot things at 16 apiece, and St Thomas would go on a 10-1 run 25-17. The second set was all St. Thomas as Dallas Christian would fail to get anything going and drop the ensuing set 25-13. In the third set, the Celts would close the day in a competitive set three trading points with the Crusaders, and find themselves behind 15-18. However, this wouldn't be enough to stop the St. Thomas offense from showcasing their skills and going on a 10-2 run capped off by a kill by Audrey Cataline from Kendall Howard to achieve nine straight wins.

Up next, Volleyball will go for their tenth straight win for the first time under head coach Keanne Burt against Huston Tillotson University. The game will take place Tuesday, September 20th at 6pm.
