CC Storms Back to Defeat Trinity

Box Score It was a tale of two halves for Colorado College and Trinity University on Friday night at Reid Arena.

After trailing by as many as 13 points during the first half, the Colorado Tigers outscored TU by 20 during the final 20 minutes and pulled away for an 80-69 victory.

CC improved to 7-6 overall and 3-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

It also marked career victory No. 100 for Colorado College head coach Andy Partee, who joined Leon "Red" Eastlack and J. Juan Reid as the only coaches to record 100 or more victories in program history.

Freshman guard Reed Nakakihara connected on five of six three-point attempts, including three in a span of 1:29 in the second half, and finished with a season-high 18 points.

Sophomore guard Eric Houska poured in 19 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, 12 of which came from long distance.

As a team, CC shot a blistering 61.5 percent from the floor during the second half, which including a 7-for-12 performance from behind the arc. Colorado College tied its season high with 12 three-pointers.

CC began the second half with a 12-2 surge and took its first lead of the game on a Houska layup with 17:50 to play.

A jumper by sophomore guard Brian Blum gave the Texas Tigers a 53-52 edge, but Nakakihara dialed long distance on three of the next four possessions to give Colorado College an eight-point cushion 8:29 into the second half.

TU pulled to within 66-64 when junior forward A.J. Pulliam hit a three-pointer with a little more than five minutes to go, but that was as close as the visitors would get.

Houska answered with a pair of long-range buckets and then finished a three-point play that gave CC an 11-point advantage with 45 seconds to play.

During the first 20 minutes, Trinity turned pressure defense and timely three-point shooting into a 41-32 halftime lead.

TU led by 13 points after sophomore guard Matt Jones made one of two free throws with 8:20 remaining in the first half, but Colorado College pulled to within 34-30 after senior forward James Lonergan sank a pair from the charity stripe with 1:42 to play.

Lonergan recorded nine of his 11 points during the opening frame to keep the hosts within striking distance.

Freshman forward Isaiah Specks and Pulliam scored seven of the next nine points to extend Trinity's lead to nine points after 20 minutes.

Pulliam scored 14 of his team-high 19 points during the first half, while Specks connected on all four of his long-range attempts during the opening 20 minutes.

TU slipped to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the SCAC.

Colorado College plays host to Schreiner University on Sunday at 2 p.m. MT.
