Galow's 11 leads Lynx

Men's Basketball Falls to DePauw University

2/19/2010 11:22:43 PM

Greencastle, Indiana ~ Rhodes dropped a low scoring affair to DePauw tonight, 36-53.  Rhodes slowed the pace greatly, neutralizing the transition offense that DePauw usually gets.  Rhodes allowed only 4 transition points on the night, but could not overcome their own offensive woes as they connected on only 32% from the field.

DePauw opened the game scoring the first four points before Reid Hamilton (Birmingham, AL) scored off an offensive put back cutting the deficit in half.  A Nathan Ollie (Memphis, TN) scored a layup on the Lynx next offensive possession to tie the game at 4 apiece.  The next time down the court, Hamilton scored a layup giving Rhodes a 6-4 lead with 15:57 left to play in the half.  The teams traded baskets for the next five minutes before a Tiger jumper tied the score at 14.  With DePauw leading by three at the 7:55 mark, Kory Kilpatrick (Athens, GA) knocked in two free throws pulling Rhodes to within one.  DePauw scored a basket to increase the lead back to three before baskets by Kilpatrick and Andrew Galow (Oswego, IL) gave Rhodes a one point half time lead at 20-19.

DePauw opened the second half with an 8-0 run to take the lead 27-20 before Hamilton's layup at the 16:30 mark cut the lead to five.  The Tigers would push their lead to 12 points at the 7:28 mark.  Kilpatrick connected on two free throws to cut the lead to 10.  After a DePauw free throw, Ollie connected on a short jumper to cut the lead to nine with 6:44 left.  On its next possession, Rhodes got two free throws from Galow to close the gap to seven points, but, unfortunately that was as close as the Lynx would come.  DePauw closed out the game with a 12-2 run and finished the Lynx off with a 53-36 victory.

On the night, Rhodes was led by Galow's 11 points and Ollie chipped in 10.  Kilpatrick led the Lynx on the boards with a game high 8 rebounds.  Rhodes was 13-41 from the field and missed all seven of its three point attempts.  Rhodes defense was solid all night, allowing DePauw to connect on just 37% of its field goal attempts.
