TLU Baseball Blasts Concordia, 10-2

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Baseball cruised to a 10-2 win over Concordia University (TX) on Tuesday night at Tornado Field. The Bulldogs improved to 12-7 on the season to begin a stretch of 8-of-11 games on the road.

Shortstop Joe Jimenez (San Antonio/Johnson) was outstanding at the plate - going 3-for-5 with two home runs, five RBIs, and three runs scored. The two home runs  and five runs brought in brings Jimenez's season totals to 10 home runs and 35 RBI - extending his conference lead and regaining the national Division-III lead in each category.

Texas Lutheran's trend of hot starts continued - scoring in the first three innings to jump out to an early 7-0 lead. Jimenez hit a three-run home run to center field in the first inning, Holden Philippus (San Antonio/San Antonio Christian) extended the lead to 5-0 with a two-run double in the second inning, and Jimenez would strike again in the third inning with a two-run home run - this one of the opposite field variety as the Bulldogs poured it on early.

The Tornados would scratch across runs in the fourth and fifth innings to bring the Bulldogs lead to 7-2.

Tyler Post (San Antonio/Johnson) extended the Bulldogs lead to 10-2 with a three-run homer down the right field line in the seventh inning.

Logan Fisher (Thorndale/Thorndale) got the start and picked up the winning decision - working two scoreless innings, striking out two and only allowing one hit. Matthew Hickey (Klein/Klein Collins) pitched two scoreless innings in relief with four strikeoutS out of the bullpen. Blake Cappadona (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) also pitched two scoreless innings in relief and struck out three batters.

Texas Lutheran will head to Georgetown, Texas, this weekend to face the Southwestern Pirates in conference play. The three-game series begins Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6 PM at Rockwell Family Baseball Field. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
