Box Score Colorado College won the statistical battles, but Eastern University used a big-time performance by goaltender Pat Groschan to win the war.
 
Groschan made six of his 14 saves after CC took an 8-6 lead with 8:44 remaining in the third quarter, giving the Eagles an opportunity to rally for an 11-9 victory on Friday afternoon.
 
The Tigers took a two-goal lead, their biggest of the game, when Jack McCormick capped a 5-0 run midway through the third quarter.
 
Grant Ferguson and Dave Darling combined for a pair of tallies to tie the game at 8-8 after 45 minutes, and then Cody Ridgway scored 22 seconds into the fourth quarter to put Eastern ahead for good.
 
Colorado College had a pair of opportunities to tie the score early in the fourth quarter, but Groschan denied Dylan Davie 1:20 into the period before Jack Kreitler whistled a shot off the post 43 seconds later. Groschan made two more saves before Desmond Decker struck for what proved to be the game winner with 9:10 remaining in the contest.
 
Kreitler pulled CC to within a goal with 8:54 remaining, but the Tigers were unable to get another shot past Groschan.
 
Ferguson struck for three goals and dished out three assists to pace the Eastern attack. Darling and JC Hofmeister each scored once and set up two other tallies for the Eagles, who improved to 5-1.
 
Kreitler led the Tigers with three goals, while Henri Halle added a pair.
 
Eastern built an early 3-0 lead, but the Tigers answered with three of their own and knotted the score when Gray Ritger found the cage with 12 seconds remaining in the first period.
 
In a virtual replay of the opening quarter, the Eagles used a three-goal spurt to build a 6-3 lead, only to see Colorado College pull to within 6-5 after Henri Halle and Sayre Thomas scored just 11 seconds apart with 3:36 to go before intermission.
 
Chase Murphy made 10 saves for CC, while Tim Jenkins scooped up three ground balls.
 
The Tigers finished with an edge in total shots (39-35) and ground balls (31-28) and won 12 of 23 faceoffs.
 
Colorado College (3-3) visits No. 11 Lynchburg College on Sunday.
