Jordan Meltzer and
McKenzee Gertz scored 20 points apiece as the Colorado College women's basketball team emerged from a 10-day break with a convincing 81-46 victory over Centenary College at the Gold Dome on Sunday afternoon.
Meltzer connected on her first six shots, including three from behind the arc, to finish the first period with 15 points. She added five more in the second half to score 20 points for the third time this season.
Gertz reached the 20-point mark for the fifth time this year and the 13th time in three seasons. She also grabbed 10 rebounds to complete her fifth double-double of the 2019-20 campaign and her 17th overall.
With her offensive rebound midway through the third quarter, Gertz became the 20th player in program history to record 500 career rebounds. The junior winger finished the game with 501, which put her in a tie for 19th place with Courtney Tyus (2011-15).
The Tigers also received a dominating performance from first-year forward Rosey Braley, who posted her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
CC built a 32-20 lead after Gertz scored on a layup 2:37 into the second quarter, but the Ladies utilized an 11-2 run to pull to within 34-31 on Darelzray Bellard's three-pointer with 3:14 to play.
Colorado College re-established control by scoring the final six points of the second quarter, and then ran off 12 in a row to open the second half.
Jennae Mayberry scored Centenary's first basket of the third quarter to trim its deficit to 52-33, but the Tigers went on a 14-2 run to build a 31-point cushion after 30 minutes.
