UD Loses Another Close Game
After losing their final home game of the year 2-0, the Lady
Crusaders were blanked again 1-0 to Rhodes College on Saturday
afternoon to drop to 5-12 on the year. On the bright side, the team
is showing that they are almost over the hump with their great
defensive play as of late. Over the last five games the team has
limited opponent shots and played great defensive soccer, and prior
to Tuesday’s 2-0 loss, they were coming off of two; double
overtime 1-0 loses.
Also promising was the three freshmen contributed and registered
all four of the shots. Midfielder Marie Meagher (Grand Forks,
ND/Red River H.S.) had two shots, while midfielder/forward Leslie
Solis (Irving, TX/Irving Nimitz H.S.) and forward Melissa Carpenter
(Sugar Land, TX/Stephen F. Austin H.S.) each chipped in one. Senior
goalkeeper Jennifer Boryca (Piqua, OH/Piqua H.S.) recorded six
saves.
The UD women play tomorrow on their way south and face the Hendrix
College Warriors in Conway, AR. The game is slated to start at
2:00pm. After the match on Sunday, the Crusaders are off during the
week before playing their final two games next weekend against
Birmingham-Southern College and Millsaps College.
