First Half Goals lift Celts past Bulldogs 2-1

SEGUIN, TX -- Goals in the 29th and 30th minutes from the St. Thomas Celts gave them a 2-1 win over Texas Lutheran Women's soccer in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon at Gustafson Field.

Texas Lutheran is now 2-5 overall while the Celts improve to 1-6-1.

The Bulldogs lone goal was scored by junior Anna Bourbonnais (The Woodlands/The Woodlands) via an assist from Samantha Martinez (Schertz/Clemens) in the 3rd minute of the game. The Bulldogs maintained a 1-0 advantage for more than 20 minutes in a stretch that saw goalkeeper Madison Johnson (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) send away one potential Celts goal before two balls slipped past her into the net.

The St. Thomas Celts outshot the Bulldogs 12-6 but only maintained a 3-1 advantage in shots on-goal. The Celts also held an advantage in corner kicks 5-1.

The Bulldogs return to action September 29 at 4PM on the road at Schriener.
