Tigers top Bethany, improve to 2-0

Colorado College defeated Bethany College, 80-70, on Saturday afternoon to earn a share of the 2009 Marriott Mountain Lion Classic title and start a season with back-to-back victories for the first time since the 2003-04 season.

Nick Rose scored 22 points and Jeremiah Waters added a career-high 16 to lead the Tigers to the victory over the Swedes and earn a spot on the all-tournament team.

Bethany led 35-32 after 20 minutes, but Waters nailed a pair of three pointers to ignite a 14-2 run. His first bucket tied the score at 35-35 and the next one put CC ahead for good at 40-37 with 17:48 remaining in the game.

Colorado College was leading 55-49 with 11:48 to play when Ryan Harty scored eight of his 12 points during a 22-8 run that put CC ahead 77-57 with 4:06 to go.

Brady Ohlsen recorded his seventh career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tigers will try to win three consecutive games for the first time since the end of the 2003-04 season when they play Nebraska Wesleyan University next Friday night in Lincoln.
