Tigers Demonstrate Grit Against Southwestern

Box Score Despite having just seven available players, the Colorado College men's basketball team demonstrated a huge amount of grit before falling to Southwestern University, 66-57, on Friday night.

"I'm really proud of how our guys battled tonight," head coach Jeff Conarroe said. "I believe we have taken another step forward,"

Several Tigers turned in enormous individual efforts, none bigger than junior forward Will Nisbet, who grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. Classmates Sam Kinney and Isaac Zachem had eight apiece to help CC post a 49-35 advantage on the boards.

"I loved our effort on the glass tonight," Conarroe said. "I thought Will and Sam played well and continue to improve. When we come out the other side of this, I love the make-up of this team. It is just going to take time."

Junior guard Jack McRoskey scored 13 points and dished out six assists, while junior guard Aaron Acosta added 13 points and five rebounds.

Colorado College led for most of the first 20 minutes and were up 32-25 early in the second half, but that's when foul issues began to make it difficult to contest shots the way the Tigers had been earlier in the game.

After CC held Southwestern to a fraction under 30 percent shooting from the floor during the first half, the Pirates began driving to the rim against less resistance. The end result was SU shooting 51.9 percent from the floor after halftime.

Kyle Poerschke led Southwestern with 18 points and eight rebounds.
