Box Score Colorado College stayed within striking distance of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference co-leader Austin College for more than a half, but the 'Roos began to pull away in the third quarter and went on to post a 79-53 victory on Friday night at Reid Arena.
Casey Torbet finished with a team-high 18 points for the Tigers, who slipped to 4-11 overall and 1-3 in the SCAC. The junior guard also grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists.
First-year winger
McKenzee Gertz scored 12 points to reach double-digits for the 12th time in 15 games.
Freshman guard
Jade Odom produced eight points and a game-high nine rebounds for CC.
Junior guard Ann Savage scored 19 points for the 'Roos, who improved to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
As a team, Austin connected on 13 of 35 three-point attempts, compared to Colorado College which was 5-for-13.
CC pulled to within 19-15 when Gertz hit a jumper with 1:37 remaining in the first quarter, but the 'Roos answered with a 10-3 run to take an 11-point lead after 10 minutes.
After trailing by as many as 17 points in the second quarter, the Tigers trimmed their deficit to 11 when Gertz dialed long distance 2:04 into the third to make the score 46-35.
That proved to be as close at Colorado College would get because Austin hit six three-pointers during the 11:07 to dash any hopes of a Tiger rally.
Senior guard Meghan Lewis finished with 14 points for the 'Roos, 12 of which came from behind the arc.
First-year guard Kacie West went 3-for-7 from long distance en route to a 13-point performance.
Colorado College plays host to Centenary College on Sunday at 2 p.m.
