Ladies Fall 70-63 at Dallas in SCAC Contest on Friday

Irving, Texas – The Centenary women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 70-63 decision to the University of Dallas Crusaders in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday at the Maher Center.

Centenary was led once again by freshman guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) who scored 18 points, matching her career high and recording 18 points for the third time this season. Tremie led all scorers with 18 points last Saturday at Schreiner and scored 18 at home versus Texas Lutheran in her collegiate debut on Jan. 16. Tremie added seven rebounds, two steals, and 4 of her 8 three-point basket attempts on Friday. She entered this weekend's action fifth in 3-point field goals made in the SCAC and is ranked in the top 15 in the conference in scoring.

Junior guard Kristen Stuart (Kilgore, Texas) continued her impressive offensive play as she scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds with two assists and two steals. She went 7-10 from the free-throw line. Stuart, a transfer from Richland College, scored a career-high 17 points and added a career-best eight rebounds last Saturday in a loss to Schreiner when she also made 7 of 10 free throw attempts. Stuart has now reached double figures four times this season as she ranks in the top 15 in the SCAC in scoring and ranks in the top 10 in free-throw percentage.

Senior guard Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) scored six points and had three rebounds and dished out a career-high eight assists. Amelia Bagwell had six points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. Junior guard Ani Uikilifi (San Bruno, Calif.) added a season-high nine points off the bench with three rebounds.

Dallas placed three players in double figures on Friday, led by 19 apiece from Camille Fowler and Alyssa Sullivan. Amber Turner added 17. Imani Hardin grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds. The Crusaders shot 37.9 % from the floor for the game while the Ladies shot 31.4 %. Dallas edged the Ladies in the rebounding battle by one, 48-47, while Centenary forced 21 Dallas turnovers and committed 18 of its own.

The Ladies led 17-16 after the first quarter but then Dallas took a 30-26 lead at the half. The Crusaders outscored Centenary, 23-16, in the third quarter to lead 53-42 entering the final 10 minutes. The Ladies outscored Dallas by four, 21-17, in the final period. A free throw by Stuart cut the Dallas lead to just three, 63-60, at the 1:32 mark but the Crusaders scored the next three points to lead 66-60 with 1:06 remaining. Centenary got to within four, 67-63, with just 31 seconds left on a Stuart jumper but three free throws in the final 30 seconds iced the game for the Crusaders as they held on for the seven-point victory.

Three of the Ladies' losses this season have been by nine points or less, including their last two. Last season, thirteen of Centenary's losses last season were by 14 points or less, with nine by 12 points or less and six by single digits displaying how hard the Ladies played and how competitive they were and that same toughness has been displayed so far this season.

Centenary returns home to face Colorado College next weekend in SCAC play. The games are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 6 at Noon. Live video and live stats are available at all home games.
