Tigers make quick work of Trine in home opener

Box Score Senior attackman Steve Rijo and sophomore midfielder Henri Halle recorded three goals and five points apiece to lead Colorado College to a 23-3 victory over Trine University in the Tigers' home opener on Friday night at Washburn Field.
 
Sophomore midfielder Nick Ahrens put CC on the board 3:49 into the first period and Rijo doubled the lead 56 seconds later, the first of four times the hosts struck for two goals in less than a minute.
 
On a cool and overcast night, Colorado College was just getting warmed up.
 
After sophomore Gray Ritger scored an unassisted goal midway through the quarter, sophomore midfielder Sayre Thomas struck for what proved to be the game winner with 2:40 remaining in the opening period.
 
Senior attacker Charles Curtis recorded three of his game-high four assists during the first half to help the Tigers open a 10-0 lead after 30 minutes.
 
Freshman attackman Chris Lee scored two of his three goals in the third quarter, which also saw sophomore midfielder Brooks Pinnick and freshman attackman Robert Prior notch the first goal of their careers. Freshman midfielder Charlie Neaves found the net for the first time with 1:10 remaining in the game.
 
Colorado College led 20-0 before senior midfielder Dalton Madsen broke up the shutout with the first of his two goals with 5:58 to play. Sophomore midfielder Adam Martin also scored for the Thunder (0-3).
 
In addition to his two goals and an assist, Thomas won eight of 14 face-offs and grabbed a team-high nine ground balls.
 
All four goaltenders played for CC. Freshman Chase Murphy stopped all nine shots he faced in 34:53 of action. Junior Zach Steedman made three saves.
 
Sophomore Matt Lamb turned aside seven shots before giving way to freshman Sam Margulis 3:53 into the second half. 
 
Junior midfielder Rob Brezinski scooped up a game-high 16 ground balls and went 16-for-23 in face-offs.
 
Colorado College (3-1) returns to action on Wednesday, March 13, when the Tigers open their six-game spring break schedule against Wheaton College at 4 p.m.
