SHERMAN, Texas – The McMurry University swimming teams both suffered losses in a road dual meet at Austin College. The War Hawks' women fell by a 120-100 score, while the men lost by a 126-55 differential.
On the women's side of matters, junior
Robyn Remschel won a par of events for McM.. Remschel took top honors in both the 50-yard freestyle (26.85 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.48 minutes).
In the 50 free, Remschel led a 1-4 sweep by McM. Following Remschel were
Kelsey Hill (28.17),
Katie Gorka (31.02) and
Linah Howey (31.59). Hill also won the 100 freestyle in a time of 1:01.49.
Gorka went to the other extreme after her third in the 50 free, winning the marathon 1000 freestyle (12:32.13) and was second in the 500 free (6:07.96).
Zandria Rodriguez was also a winner for the War Hawks, taking to 100 yard breaststroke.
Monica Flores was third in the event at 1:21.71. Rodriguez (1:08.41) and Flores (1:12.62) also went 2-3 in the 100 butterfly. Flores took first place in the women's 200 individual medley (2:30.41) as the War hawks' only other event winner.
Kaylee Cook was runner-up to Remschel in the 100 backstroke (1:11.88). Cook was also second in the 200 free (2:13.00).
For the McM men, sophomore
Jerick Pena won the men's 100-yard butterfly in a time of 56.91 seconds. Pena was also second in the 200 individual medley (2:10.21).
Tyler Gentry was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.98), with teammate
Zach Tassin second (1:16.01). Tassin was also the runner-up in the 100 backstroke (1:05.20). In the men's 200 freestyle,
Austin Gombas was second (2:01.93) and Gentry third (2:13.39). Gombas also earned a third (53.67) in the 100 freestyle, as well.
