The men's tennis team improved two spots over their seed to finish in ninth place at the SCAC Tennis Championships over the weekend.
Southwestern entered as the #11 seed and faced #6 seed Millsaps in the opening round on Friday morning. The Majors jumped out to an early 3-0 after winning all three doubles and continued to cruise over the Pirates winning two singles matches before inclement weather came in. With the match already decided 5-0 Southwestern fell into the losers bracket.
The Pirates came back strong against Austin College in their next match. Alex Lam and D'Art Bebel defeated Rousch/Cook 8-2 in #1 doubles while Alec Bergerson and Alexander Reinsch easily handled Grander/Kunde 8-1 in the #3 slot. Andrew Olsson and Andy Clarage were just points away from making it a sweep in doubles as they fell 9-8 (4) to Bengston/Taylor.
Southwestern continued to roll through singles matches as the Pirates won all but one to advance with the 7-2 win over Austin College.
In the final match of the Championships the Pirates faced off against #8 Hendrix College for the ninth place finish. Southwestern started strong and won two of the three doubles matches. Hendrix came back and regained the lead with wins in #1 singles and #2 singles.
