Taylor propels Tigers past Fontbonne

Moses Taylor struck for three goals and assisted on five other scores to lead Colorado College to a 13-3 victory over Fontbonne University on Saturday afternoon at Washburn Field.

Taylor had a hand in six scores during the third period when the Tigers exploded for eight consecutive goals to break open a tight game.

After Peter Travis put the Griffins on the board 2:52 into the second half to trim CC's lead to 3-1, Taylor notched what proved to be the game-winning tally 1:31 later after taking a feed from Carson Christman.

Christman added two more goals just 21 seconds apart as the Tigers doubled their offensive output in a span of 54 seconds.

Later in the period, CC needed just 1:39 to add four more goals and build an 11-1 lead after Christman recorded his third score with 2:34 remaining in the third period.

Colin Benecke and Ray Medalla cut Fontbonne's deficit to 11-3 midway thought the fourth period, but CC's Charles Curtis and Buck McKenna scored 48 seconds apart late in the period to close out the scoring.

Brendan Haas stopped seven of 10 shots on goal while improving to 3-1 in goal. Chad Meuer made 11 of his 14 saves during the first half to keep Fontbonne in the game.

Despite a 31-7 advantage in total shots during the opening 30 minutes, the Tigers led just 3-0 at the break. CC finished with a 51-19 advantage in shots, won 14 of 19 faceoffs and had a 32-20 edge in ground balls.

Kyle Bishop won 12 of 15 faceoffs and had a team-high eight ground balls to lead the Colorado College defense.

CC improved to 3-1, while the Griffins dropped to 1-4.

Colorado College plays its first-ever Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game next Saturday when the Tigers travel Birmingham-Southern College.
