TLU uses strong fourth quarter to post road win at Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran out-scored Southwestern 19-10 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 60-52 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road win Friday night at the Robertson Center.
 
The Bulldogs held Southwestern scoreless over the final 4:39 of the game.
 
TLU improved to 3-2 overall and to 3-2 in the SCAC.
 
Southwestern fell to 1-6 overall and to 1-6 in the SCAC.
 
With 1:06 to play in the game, TLU small forward Jayla Santa Maria hit a three-pointer with the shot clock winding down to push the Bulldogs' advantage to four, 56-52.
 
Santa Maria's shot followed senior post Abby Hroch's 12-foot jumper that put TLU ahead to stay, 53-52 with 1:56 on the clock.
 
The lead changed five times in the fourth before Santa Maria and Hroch gave TLU some breathing room.
 
Tara Molina's layup with 31 seconds remaining pushed the lead to two possessions, at 58-52.
 
Molina and Hroch each scored 14 for the Bulldogs. Santa Maria added 13, and Olivia Balderas chipped in nine.
 
Hroch grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, and she added two assists.
 
Molina and Santa Maria each had four assists, and Santa Maria registered three steals.
 
TLU held Southwestern to 8-of-29 (27.6 percent) from the three-point line.
 
Lauren Fulenwider led the Pirates with 13 points.
 
Southwestern led by seven points in the second quarter.
 
TLU and Southwestern play each other again on Saturday. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Southwestern's Robertson Center.
