SUWANEE, Ga. - As one of the few Division III
conferences that conducted its championship game on Sunday
afternoon, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, to some
degree, held center stage on February 26 as the Centre College
and DePauw University men awaited tip-off of their 2006
conference title match-up. By the end of the evening, courtesy
of one amazing and unbelievable game-ending shot (and several video
replays by the four-letter network), the SCAC would hold center
stage all over the basketball world. Top 20

With the scored tied at 61 and two seconds remaining in the
contest, junior wing Austin Brown, after recovering a batted
away inbounds pass, launched and nailed a 61-foot shot off
glass at the buzzer to lift DePauw to a 64-61 victory over Centre,
a SCAC men’s basketball title and a ticket to the 2006 NCAA
Division III Championship.
The shot was selected as ESPN's "Play of the
Day”, and the cable television sports network aired a video
clip of the fantastic finish -- complete with commentary by WGRE's
Wes Anderson and Steve Powell -- on SportsCenter. The
audio of the two students' play-by-play of the winning basket was
also aired nationally on ESPN radio. Video | Audio | ESPN Gym Gems | DePauw

Three days later, Brown, who was named MVP of the SCAC
tournament, was interviewed live by ESPN2 Cold Pizza
co-host Dana Jacobson (see video below) where the junior
said, "I was kind of just in the right spot at the right time and I
knew I didn't have that much time left. So I threw it up and saw --
wow, it might have a chance to go in -- and it went in. It was just
amazing."
Russell Kramer, the SCAC Director of Communications/New Media, had a chance to catch up with the man who, five years ago, made that incredible shot as well the voice of the now famous call, WGRE play-by-play announcer Wes Anderson.
