KYRA MONTES OF CENTENARY COLLEGE OF LOUISIANA, a senior forward on the women's soccer team from Shreveport, La., has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning March 16.

NOTE: Due to restrictive access with the COVID-19 outbreak, Centenary was not able to produce a video for this week's Character & Community honoree. The video below, which highlights Kyra's Character & Community honor from the 2018-19 academic year, was filmed a year ago.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Montes helps out in multiple ways in the local Shreveport community. She assists Holy Angels, which is “an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to providing love, support and empowerment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” according to their web site.

Montes also volunteers with the Young Life program, helping mentor kids and teenagers in the Shreveport community.

Athletically, Montes had an extremely successful career on the pitch for Ladies Soccer since joining the team in 2017. A senior forward, Montes was a three-time All-SCAC First Team honoree (the only player in the program's Division III era to do so) and earned her first NSCAA All-Region accolade in 2019. This fall, she led the SCAC in points per game, averaging 2.29 points per contest on 11 goals and 10 assists in just 14 games played.

One of the more decorated and accomplished players in the program's history, Montes led the conference in assists and assists per game as she tallied 32 points. Montes holds the D3 era program career records for goals (41), game-winning goals (12), assists (17) and points (73).
