MEN'S TRACK & FIELD - MOMENT #20
April 22-23, 2011
Centre College wins its first conference men's track and field title in program history at the 2011 SCAC Men's Track & Field Championships hosted by Rhodes College. In the school's 49 years in the College Athletic Conference and then Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, Centre had won 61 conference championships - but none in men's track and field.

Senior Chrys Jones ends his four year stint at Centre College with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a long leap of 49' 5 3/4" at the 2011 NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University. He was named an All-American for his performance. Jones ends his career with four national championships in the triple jump - two of which were indoor national championships and two were outdoor.

Senior Simon Flory of DePauw University earns all-America honors at the 2004 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. Flory finishes eighth with a time of 9:16.33 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

At the 2007 NCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Colorado College’s Julian Boggs garners all-American honors in the 5,000 meter run, finishing in fifth place with a time of 14:33.23 – earning Colorado four points and a 49th-place team finish.

Sophomore Andrew Schipper of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earns his second consecutive all-America honor at the 2001 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. Schipper clears 15-7 to earn fourth place. He finished tied for second in the event as a freshman and duplicated that feat earlier in the year at the 2001 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.

Tim Barkley, a freshman from Rhodes College, finishes in a tie for seventh place in the high jump competition with a leap of 6-6 3/4 inches to earn all-America honors at the 1998 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships in St. Paul, Minn., on the campus of Macalester College.

The DePauw University men successfully defend their SCAC men's track & field crown with a conference championship meet record score of 268 points at the 2001 Spring Sports Festival - hosted by DePauw. The Indiana Tigers won 10 of 17 individual events and also earned first-place honors in the 4x100 meter relay. The 118-point winning margin over second-place Trinity University remains the largest margin of victory in SCAC Men's Track & Field championship history.

Senior Mike Wottle of Rhodes College is named the SCAC Male Athlete-of-the-Year for the third time in his career (1996 and 1998), making him the first three-time winner of the award. Wottle, who takes top honors with a win in the 5,000 meters, 3,000 meter steeplechase and a second place finish in the 10,000 meters, finishes his SCAC career with six individual championship titles (2 in the 10,000 meters, 2 in the 5,000 meters and 2 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase).

By the narrowest of margins, DePauw University claims its fourth SCAC Men’s Track title in five years. The Tigers out-point Centre College 178-177 to win the 2004 SCAC Men’s Track & Field Championship at Georgia Tech. Rhodes College’s 161-156 victory over Sewanee-University of the South at the 1993 Championships had been the closest SCAC Men’s Track team finish.

Senior Andrew Schipper became the first Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athlete to earn six all-America honors in his career with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault (15-7) at the 2003 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.

DePauw University senior Graham Wellman concludes his collegiate career with an all-America performance at the 2005 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Wartburg College. Wellman finishes fifth in the 5,000-meter run in 14:46.56. The all-America honor was his fourth at DePauw - first in outdoor track - and gave the Tigers four points and a tie for 44th place in the team standings.

For the third time in its history, the SCAC has three individuals earn all-America honors at one national championship meet. First-year Zach Brush of Trinity University runs a 1:52.59 and finishes in sixth place at the 2008 NCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Oshkosh, Wisc. Junior Chris Baer of Trinity finishes in fifth place in the javelin competition with a toss of 205 feet and 2 inches. Sophomore Jerry Maldonado of Hendrix College - with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches - finishes seventh in the high jump. Trinity finishes 43rd, Hendrix 77th in the final team standings.

DePauw University finishes tied for 28th at the 1999 NCAA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships (@ Berea, Ohio) behind the all-America performance of sophomore Colin Smith. Smith, the defending discus champion and an all-American in the weight throw at the 1999 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, finishes second in this year’s discus competition with his third-best throw ever at 173-7. Smith's teammate, Jake Carpenter, finishes seventh in the 1,500 meters (3:52.93) to also take home all-America honors. Junior Matt Wilkinson of Rhodes College earns all-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 190-1.

The SCAC has a tremendous national meet at the 2000 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. Three student-athletes earn all-America honors and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology posts the league's best-ever finish (at that time), finishing in a tie for 19th-place among 74 schools who scored. Rose-Hulman freshman Andrew Schipper ties the league's highest individual finish with a tie for second in the pole valut (16-2 3/4) and teammate Phil Reksel, a senior, finishes fifth in the 400 hurdles (52.40). DePauw junior Colin Smith places sixth in the discus with a toss of 158-0.

At the 1996 SCAC Spring Sports Festival on the campus of Sewanee-The University of the South, Rhodes College wins the SCAC Men's Track & Field Championship with a 62.25 point win over second-place Centre College. The Lynx place first in seven individual events - led by freshman Mike Wottle who earns Co-Athlete-of-the-Year honors with a first-place finish in the 10,000 meters and second-place finishes in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and 5,000 meters. The championship is the fourth straight for the Rhodes' men, which remains the longest consecutive win streak in the sport by any program in the SCAC era.

Sophomore Jason Walter of Rhodes College jumps 47-9 1/4 to finish fifth in the triple jump at the 1997 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships held on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The performance earns him the first-ever all-America honor for a men's track & field student-athlete in the SCAC era. Walter had earned all-America honors in the 1997 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships with a seventh place finish in the same event.

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD - MOMENT #4
April 25-26, 2003
Trinity University claimed the 2003 SCAC Men's Track & Field championship with 209.5 points, outdistancing second-place DePauw University with 181.5 at the William Welch Track at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The victory snapping DePauw's three-year stranglehold on the title. Trinity earned 10 championships to claim the victory, led by five from the SCAC Track Athlete of the Year Jerheme Urban. The versatile Urban claimed titles in the 100-meter dash, 400-meter hurdles, long jump, triple jump and the javelin throw - giving him 12 individual conference career titles in six different events. It was Urban's fourth-consecutive Athlete of the Year award - an all-time first in SCAC Track & Field. The 50 individual points he accumulated at the 2003 conference meet are the most by any single athlete at any SCAC Track & Field championship.

DePauw University senior Eric Fruth becomes the first SCAC student-athlete to earn two all-America honors at the same meet when he finishes fifth in the both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs at the 2002 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. Fruth's 5,000 meter time was 14:54.37 and his 10,000 meter finishing time was 31:08.64. His performances propel DePauw to a 38th place team finish.

May 27-29, 2010
Centre College junior Chrys Jones wins his third national title in the triple jump, following a win at the 2010 NCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Baldwin-Wallace College in Cleveland, Ohio. Jones took the triple jump title with a jump of 49’9.75”, and topped 16 other participants. He won the 2009 outdoor national title as well as the 2010 indoor national title in the triple jump.

Trinity University junior Zach Brush also earns all-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meter run. He recorded a time of 1:52.91 and was just .12 seconds behind the third-place finisher.

Led by Centre College sophomore Chrys Jones (pictured left), SCAC student-athletes record five all-America performances - a new conference high - at the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field Championships at Marietta College.

On the final day of the event, Jones sets a new Don Drumm Stadium record with his winning triple jump at the 2009 national championship. The individual national title is the 19th all-time for a SCAC student-athlete and third during the 2008-09 academic year. Jones jumps 50 feet, 3 1/4 inches to earn the national title in the event, the first-ever for a Centre College student-athlete. He is the first male SCAC student-athlete to win a national title at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships since Rose-Hulman's Chris Trapp won back-to-back-to-back javelin titles from 1984-1986.

In addition, Trinity University senior Chris Baer earns all-America honors for the second straight year by registering a throw of 201 feet even (61.27 meters) to take third place in the javelin. His teammate, freshman Justin Campbell, placed third in the discus with a toss of 164 feet, 7 inches (50.18 meters). Trinity senior Todd Wildman earned two all-America honors, placing second in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.29 seconds (just five-hundredths of a second behind the winner and sixth in the long jump with a jump of 22 feet, 10 3/4 inches (6.98 meters).
